Collaborative Solutions Consulting and Management is pleased to work with the Healthy Families/Thriving Communities Collaborative Council to offer the Family Development Credentialing (FDC) Program. We have trained hundreds of workers in the DMV area. FDC is a training program for frontline workers designed to reorient human service practice to the family support approach.  It offers a research-based comprehensive curriculum in family support principles, which significantly improves the ability of frontline workers to help the families and individuals they work with to set and reach their own goals.  Workers receive a credential issued by the University of Connecticut after:

  • –successful completion of a 13 week – 90 classroom hours of instruction,
  • –a standardized exam, and
  • –portfolio development under the guidance of a community-based Field Advisor.

A 30-hour class is offered to supervisors to prepare them to support this family support approach. Supervisors are required to complete a portfolio. CEU’s are available.

Collaborative Solutions Consulting and Management is offering three tracks of capacity building training for community-based organizations in 2017. They are;

Track 1: Principles of Family Development: A Primer for Strengthening Families

This innovative training is grounded in family support principles adapted from the Family Development Credentialing Program, a research-based comprehensive curriculum which has been shown to produce positive outcomes for families, workers and organizations.  The curriculum embraces the Strengthening Families Framework developed by the Center for the Study of Social Policy (CSSP) which places an intentional focus on family and child development. We combine the principles with the five protective factors identified hat are relevant to supporting strong families. CSSP’s research has shown that these factors strengthen families and contribute to optimal youth development. These protective factors are:

  • –Parental Resilience- the ability of parents to effectively cope with the challenges of parenting and everyday life;
  • –Concrete Support in Times of Need: Providing immediate and accessible resources and supports to families;
  • –Knowledge of Child Development: Knowledge of appropriate expectations for the behavior of their children/youth.
  • –Social Connections: The importance of being connected to social institutions like schools, religious institutions, recreation centers and other organizations that provide safe and stable environments for children and families.
  • –Social-Emotional Competence of Children/Youth: A parent being able to nurture their child and maintain stability in the home in the midst of living in stressful environments.

The training is presented in four modules over a total of 32 hours:

Track 2: Strategic Thinking for Strategic Planning

One of the most valuable skills a leader can have is the ability to strategically position their organization to have the greatest impact of resources and assets. Deciding the growth projection of the organization, how it will get there and then taking action is critical to its success. Having a roadmap in place is a valuable tool for monitoring outcomes. Someone has to be responsible for leading that process. In two four-hour sessions we will discuss strategic thinking skills such as decision-making, problem-solving, and project and time management. We will complete a SWOT analysis of a sample organization to develop a strategic plan and emphasize the importance of documenting outcomes.

Session 1: SWOT Testing Your Organization. The focus of this workshop is to assist participants in aligning the vision and mission of their organization within their current environment by completing a SWOT analysis. It is a multidimensional look at their entity (management, finance, operations, programming, human resources and development).

Session 2: Decision-Making: Exploring Capacity Building Strategies. In this session, participants are introduced to different frameworks for moving their organization forward using the tools of the SWOT analysis. They are sustainable development, operational and management concepts and social capital. Participants will receive hands on experience in developing a strategic planning process for their organization.

Track 3: Grant Writing 101

There are a lot of great ideas that are generated every day; however, they do not get funded. HTC presents interactive workshops that walk participants through the art of writing competitive proposals and developing the corresponding budgets.  The areas covered are content writing, researching your idea, matching organization priorities to funder priorities, developing outcomes, and developing supporting documentation such as budgets and organizational capacity statements. Participants will have an opportunity to share previous proposal submissions for technical assistance. The sessions are clear and easy to understand. There are two four hour sessions.

Session 1: Building the Case: Preparation for Writing the Grant. Participants discuss grant writing preparation building upon the strategic plan/resource development plan of their organization to ensure their grant search is aligned with organization and funder priorities. An overview of the grant writing process begins with determining the basic background material required and the development of a grant calendar through the submission of the proposal package. Beyond finding the funding opportunity, we delve into the eligibility criteria and proposal requirements. Participants are shown how to develop a proposal timeline and checklist protocol. The early identification and collection of attachments is emphasized.

Session 2: During this session a logic model is developed based on their programmatic focus. Participants will focus on evaluation of their projects, developing budgets and following up on their submissions. Time will be allotted to review past submissions for lessons learned.

STANDARDS OF QUALITY FOR FAMILY STRENGTHENING AND SUPPORT

Collaborative Solutions Consulting and Management has certified consultants to assist members of the National Family Support network in implementing the 17 Standards of Quality for Family Strengthening and Support. These standards integrate the 11 Principles of Family Support Practice and the evidenced-based Protective Factors Framework.

MORAL RECONATION THERAPY (MRT) GROUPS STARTING SOON!

Collaborative Solutions Consulting and Management (CSCM) provides Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) group facilitation on demand. Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) is a cognitive-behavioral approach used to increase moral reasoning to support changing attitudes, beliefs and values that form the basis of behaviors. It is rooted in social learning theory. The overall goal for participants is to avoid and stay away from illegal activity and problems in the future by redirecting their lives through MRT. The MRT groups focus on seven basic issues: confrontation of beliefs, attitudes and behaviors; assessment of current relationships; reinforcement of positive behavior and habits; positive identity formation; enhancement of self-concept; decrease in hedonism and development of frustration tolerance; and development of higher stages of moral reasoning. CSCM has certified MRT facilitators.
